Transport and Covid-19: responses and resources

Implementing transport-related Sustainable Development Goals

ITF Secretary-General Young Tae Kim welcomed Rob McInerney, International Road Assesment Programme's (iRAP) Chief Executive Officer, at ITF offices in Paris, France, on 9 October. The meeting continues the long-standing co-operation between the two organisations in promoting policies for safe and sustainable transport.

At the ITF's Annual Summit in June 2017, both organisations signed a Memorandum of Understanding in support of the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). The five-year agreement focuses on halving road deaths and injuries by 2020 (SDG 3.6); making cities safe and sustainable (SDG 11.2); and unlocking the full potential benefits of investment in transport infrastructure (SDG 9).

The meeting covered the two organisations' latest activities including the development of Road Safety Observatories, developments in road safety data, the ITF's Safer City Streets network and iRAP urban activities. Mr Kim and Mr McInerney also examined progress towards the UN targets and iRAP's 2030 plans.
