Note: Until 1994 road freight data do not include international transport.

Note: Since 2004, rail passenger transport is collected by ISTAT according to the thresholds introduced by EU Regulation 91/2003, which defines two groups of enterprises decided by the volume of goods/passengers transported: the first one under detailed reporting scheme and the second under simplified reporting scheme. Since 2016, a new Reg. EU 2032/2016 changed the thresholds for rail transport. The Reg. EU 643/2018 has the same thresholds introduced by Reg. EU 2032/2016. The changes over the years are due to the different composition of the two groups of undertakings. Data include road passenger transport by car and bus.
