ITF at Russian Transport Week
ITF Secretary-General Young Tae Kim and Russian Federation's Deputy Minister of Transport Alexey Semenov held bilateral talks during Russian Transport Week 2019 in Moscow on 20 November. The meeting gathered representatives from Russia's Ministry of Transport, the Russian Automobile Union, the Association of the International Road Transport Hauliers and the Russian Federal Government organisation Rosavtotrans.
The parties discussed issues involving the ECMT Multilateral Quota System and basic Quota. They agreed to continue co-operation for the promotion of harmonised rules for road transport hauliers in all ECMT Member Countries. Meeting participants also advanced preparations for the 2020 ITF Summit on "Transport innovation for Sustainable Development" to be held from 27 to 29 May 2020 in Leipzig, Germany.
The Russian delegation highlighted the importance of co-operation between ITF member countries, bringing attention to the advantages of knowledge sharing and the ability to benefit from international expertise on major issues related to the world transport system.
Prior to the meeting, Mr Kim delivered a keynote address on "Transport - the basis for Eurasian Integration" as part of the ITF team's participation in Russian Transport Week. The keynote focused on insights from ITF's work on how improved transport connectivity can contribute to regional, and in particular Eurasian, integration.
