Third High-level Regional Dialogue for Transport in Latin America and the Caribbean
Following up on High-level Dialogues in Cartagena, Colombia (2022) and Buenos Aires, Argentina (2023), Ministers, State Secretaries and other high-level representatives from countries in North America, Central America, the Caribbean and South America will gather in Santiago de Chile on 2/3 April 2024 for the 3rd High-Level Regional Dialogue on Transport in Latin America and the Caribbean, organised jointly by the International Transport Forum and the Ministry of Transport and Telecommunications of Chile.
The agenda will reflect crucial issues for the region's transport sector, such as infrastructure and climate change, road safety, the challenges of informal transport, accessibility, port logistics, budget restrictions and social tensions, as well as the future of new energy sources. The results and recommendations of the High-level Regional Dialogue will be presented to Ministers of all 66 ITF member countries at their Annual Summit that will take place in Leipzig, Germany, from 22-24 May 2024. The document will identify the region's specific transport challenges and highlight successes and best practices from Latin America and the Caribbean to inform the largest meeting of transport ministers in the world.
The ITF High-level Dialogues were established by ITF Secretary-General Young Tae Kim to provide fora for region-specific transport issues, support mutual learning and activate regional expertise for the global transport community. Secretary-General Kim will represent ITF at the event in Santiago.
Chile currently holds the 1st Vice-Presidency of the International Transport Forum and will assume the ITF Presidency for one year in May 2024. As only the second Latin American country to lead the ITF following Mexico in 2017/18, Chile's ITF Presidency will further strengthen the visibility of the LAC region within the ITF and beyond.

Como continuación de los Diálogos de Alto Nivel celebrados en Cartagena, Colombia (2022) y Buenos Aires, Argentina (2023), Ministros, Secretarios de Estado y otros representantes de alto nivel de países de América del Norte, América Central, el Caribe y América del Sur se reunirán en Santiago de Chile los días 2 y 3 de abril de 2024 para el III Diálogo Regional de Alto Nivel sobre Transporte en América Latina y el Caribe, organizado conjuntamente por el International Transport Forum (ITF) y el Ministerio de Transportes y Telecomunicaciones de Chile.
La agenda reflejará temas cruciales para el sector del transporte de la región, como infraestructura y cambio climático, seguridad vial, los desafíos del transporte informal, accesibilidad, logística portuaria, las restricciones presupuestarias y las tensiones sociales, así como el futuro de las nuevas fuentes de energía. Los resultados y recomendaciones del Diálogo Regional de Alto Nivel se presentarán a los Ministros de los 66 países miembros del ITF en la Cumbre Mundial de Ministros de Transporte que tendrá lugar en Leipzig (Alemania) del 22 al 24 de mayo de 2024. El documento identificará los retos específicos de la región en materia de transporte y destacará los éxitos y las mejores prácticas de América Latina y el Caribe para informarlos en la mayor reunión de ministros de transporte del mundo.
Los Diálogos de Alto Nivel del ITF fueron creados por el Secretario General del ITF, Young Tae Kim, con el fin de proporcionar espacios para cuestiones de transporte específicas de cada región, apoyar el aprendizaje mutuo y activar la experiencia regional para la comunidad mundial del transporte. El Secretario General Kim representará al ITF en el evento de Santiago.
Chile ocupa actualmente la 1ª Vicepresidencia del International Transport Forum y asumirá la Presidencia del ITF durante un año en mayo de 2024. Como segundo país latinoamericano en liderar el ITF tras México en 2017/18, la Presidencia chilena del ITF reforzará aún más la visibilidad de la región de ALC dentro del ITF y también fuera de la organización.
