Transport and Covid-19: responses and resources

Cambodia joins International Transport Forum

Cambodia has joined the International Transport Forum (ITF) as the organisation’s 64th member country. Ministers of transport from the 63 current member governments agreed to admit the Southeast Asian nation to the ITF on 19 May 2022 at their Summit in Leipzig, Germany, in the presence of State Secretary Thun Yuthea Leng of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport of Cambodia.

The ITF is the only intergovernmental organisation with a global mandate for all transport modes. Hosted by the OECD, the ITF acts as a think tank for transport policy and organises the global Summit of ministers of transport every year. Nearly 900 delegates are assembled in Leipzig, Germany, from 18 to 20 May for the ITF’s 2022 Summit under the theme of “Transport for Inclusive Societies”.

State Secretary Thun Yuthea Leng said:

“Cambodia is proud to join this world-class transport think tank. We believe that, as a member, we will obtain and share knowledge, experience and best practices with all members to make transport more efficient, resilient and inclusive in our country and beyond, for the prosperity of all people. Cambodia is committed to working closely with all ITF members and the Secretariat in pursuing our mission of fostering economic growth, environmental sustainability and social inclusiveness for the world.”

ITF Secretary-General Young Tae Kim said:

“The ITF welcomes Cambodia with open arms as a new member. Located at the heart of Southeast Asia, Cambodia is part of a rapidly developing region in which the demand for the transport of people and goods is growing. This dynamic brings with it both great opportunities and important challenges. The ITF stands ready to support Cambodia in further enhancing its transport policies to meet the needs of its people and economy. The ITF looks forward to hearing about Cambodia’s transport experiences, so as to allow other member countries to learn from them.”

ABOUT THE INTERNATIONAL TRANSPORT FORUM

Who we are

The International Transport Forum is an intergovernmental organisation with 64 member countries. It acts as a think tank for transport policy and organises the Annual Summit of transport ministers. ITF is the only global body that covers all transport modes. The ITF is administratively integrated with the OECD yet politically autonomous.

What we do

ITF works for transport policies that improve peoples' lives. Our mission is to foster a deeper understanding of the role of transport in economic growth, environmental sustainability, and social inclusion and to raise the public profile of transport policy.

How we do it

ITF organises global dialogue for better transport. We act as a platform for discussion and pre-negotiation of policy issues across all transport modes. We analyse trends, share knowledge and promote exchange among transport decision-makers and civil society. ITF's Annual Summit is the world's largest gathering of transport ministers and the leading global platform for dialogue on transport policy.
