Modelling the Future of Urban Mobility
Car-dominated urban mobility systems face an uncertain future. New technologies, mobility services, vehicles as well as the business cases that combine all three are driving a sea change in how we transport ourselves and our goods around the city. As yet, it is unclear how urban spaces and street networks developed to serve 19th century technology will or should adapt to changes in mobility. But it's not too early to start modelling what the future may look like.
This project explores the evolving urban landscape, incorporating new modes of transport and a broad spectrum of new mobility options. Scenarios for a medium-sized city will be modelled to examine the opportunities and challenges presented by reframing urban mobility to future cities. The project builds on previous ITF shared mobility studies undertaken as part of the CPB programme of work.
