Transport and Covid-19: responses and resources

Modelling the Future of Urban Mobility

Car-dominated urban mobility faces an uncertain future. This project explores how urban mobility could evolve, using simulations that incorporate new modes of transport and mobility options.

Advanced technologies, innovative mobility services and next-generation vehicles  are transforming how people and goods move in cities ) - as are the business models that combine all three. Yet it remains unclear how urban street networks and urban space developed to serve 19th-century needs and technology should adapt to the looming changes.

This project explores how urban mobility could look like by modelling scenarios for a medium-sized city, to better assess the opportunities and challenges presented by reframing mobility for cities of the future. The project is an initiative of the ITF Corporate Partnership Board (CPB) and builds on previous work on shared mobility undertaken as part of the CPB’s programme of work.
