Colombian Journalist Honoured with Global Journalism Award
Colombian TV journalist Sol Suárez Jaramillo will today (22 May) receive the ITF Journalism Award “Transport and Mobility in Latin America” 2025 at the global summit of transport ministers in Leipzig, Germany.
The ITF Summit is the largest gathering of transport ministers and the world’s premier transport policy event, organised by the International Transport Forum (ITF).
ITF Secretary-General Young Tae Kim will present the award to Ms. Suárez during a ceremony together with Chile’s Minister of Transport and Telecommunication, Juan Carlos Muñoz. Chile currently holds the Presidency of the ITF.
Ms. Suarez receives the prize for her 50-minute feature on Colombia’s transport system, Por las Vías de Colombia. In the jury’s judgement, her entry stood out among "the 64 submissions from 38 cities across 14 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean for its compelling and in-depth reporting.
The jury praised Por las Vias de Colombia specifically for capturing both the immense challenges to connectivity as well as the transformative potential of connectivity in a country marked by geographical diversity and regional disparity.
The jury noted how the feature combined various journalistic perspectives and formats to tell a complex story in an accessible and engaging way, maintaining the audience’s attention throughout its 50 minutes.
In presenting the Award, ITF Secretary General Young Tae Kim will say:
“I offer Ms. Suarez our warmest congratulations. Her voice adds strength to the discourse about the future of transport in Latin America.
“The International Transport Forum will continue to support high-quality reporting that deepens the public’s understanding of transport issues.
“We are committed to developing a network in Latin America that brings together authorities, journalists, researchers and other transport stakeholders to advance dialogue.”
