Transport and Covid-19: responses and resources

An Integrated Transport and Energy Demand Model for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

This project examines the impact of country-based strategies on transport system sustainability. Working with the King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Center (KAPSARC) of Saudi Arabia, the ITF explores future alternatives to a “business as usual” scenario. Based on ITF models, the study develops country-specific tools to allow local policy developers to assess the effects of a variety of carbon-reduction measures.

This unique project with ITF member country Saudi Arabia - the world's third-largest petroleum producer and its principal exporter - explores the potential effects of a range of decarbonisation policies on the kingdom's transport systems.

The project represents the first time that the entire ITF world-class integrated modelling framework, PASTA (Policy Ambitions and Sustainable Transport Assessment), is applied to a single country context. The project also improves ITF modelling efforts by integrating new context-specific data for the region.
