Our Transport NDC Tracker monitors how transport appears in countries' decarbonisation commitments. Do countries mention transport in their "Nationally Determined Contributions"(NDCs)? Have they included transport decarbonisation measures? And how many have set concrete CO2-reduction targets for transport? The Transport NDC Tracker is updated on the first Monday of each month.

The Transport NDC Tracker is based on the latest (first, updated first, revised or second) NDCs submitted by the 192 signatory countries of the Paris Agreement to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and published in the UNFCCC's NDC Registry. The three categories in the tracker are defined as follows: A mention is the use of the word "transport" in an NDC. A measure is an announced intervention to achieve a reduction in transport emissions, for instance to "increase the availability of charging infrastructure" or "invest in public transport"; it may also be a sub-sectoral target, such as "reduce the CO2 emissions of new vehicles by X per cent". A target is a quantified reduction objective for overall transport CO2; sub-sectoral targets are not counted.
Transport CO2 and the Paris Climate Agreement: Where Are We Six Years Later? This paper takes stock of how transport figures in national decarbonisation strategies six years after the Paris Agreement. Have more countries defined decarbonisation targets for the sector? Are these more ambitious than they were in the first Nationally Determined Contributions submitted in 2016?
